7 New Year’s Resolutions for Small Business Owners in 2022

The start of a new year is always a popular time for people to make resolutions like getting healthy or changing habits. But why not make resolutions for your business too? Here are a few resolutions that small business owners should consider this January for a successful 2022.

  1. Make top-notch customer service a priority
Your business could not exist without your customers. Start the year off with a renewed commitment to providing a level of customer service that exceeds expectations. Remind your team about your company’s commitment to customer service and brainstorm together to find new ways to serve your customers even better.
  2. Learn a new skill
The business world is constantly changing. New tools are always being developed and new trends are frequently emerging. In 2022, commit to learning a new skill that can improve your business or that you can sell. Take a course, learn a new language, or read a few books to help you gain knowledge and better your entrepreneurial skills.
  3. Touch base with your professional contacts
Do you have business contacts that you haven’t spoken to in a while? This year, set aside some time each month to reach out to them. You never know when you may need each other’s services, advice, or be able to refer business to one other. When reaching out for the first time in a while, you could share a useful article or podcast, or simply ask them how they are and what they’re up to.
  4. Work on growing your network
Just as it’s important to cultivate your existing network, it’s equally important to continually work on making new connections. Expanding your network is one of the easiest ways to get more exposure for your business and to open the door to new opportunities. If you’re not already a member, you could consider joining your local Chamber of Commerce. Attending conferences, networking events, and tradeshows are all perfect opportunities to meet new business contacts.
  5. Learn to delegate
As an entrepreneur, you likely have a lot of different responsibilities within your company. But, although you may be capable of doing everything yourself, delegating is essential for you to make the most of your time if you want to grow your business. Train your team to be able to handle tasks that take up too much of your time so you can focus your energy on scaling your business.
  6. Prioritize a healthy work life balance
Business owners are notorious for their drive and work ethic. Unfortunately, they are also known for working themselves to the bone in order to accomplish their goals. This year, commit to prioritizing your health and wellbeing. Dedicate time each day towards completely disconnecting from work and focusing on your life outside the office. Spend quality time with the people you care about, go for a walk, read a book, or do an activity that can help you combat stress such as meditation or yoga. An entrepreneur with a healthy work life balance is not only happier but more productive.
  7. Update your business plan
A business plan should never be a set it and forget it approach. January is the perfect time time to revisit your business plan and to reflect on what you want to achieve in the new year. Throughout the year, your business plan should ideally be evolving and revised in order to stay on track to meet your goals for 2022.
